Agriculture
At Satarla, we offer a comprehensive range of services to agricultural clients together with the food and beverage sector. Our mission is to support these organisations meet the needs of future generations by providing sustainable, healthy food and employment, while nurturing the land and nature in a manner that supports farmers’ livelihoods and enhances brand value. We work collaboratively with farmers, traders, processors, brand owners, and retailers to align motivations, reduce risk, and create value that is more equitably shared.
Natural Resources
Our team has deep and personal experience in running agri-businesses, farming land, and engaging extensively in agri-commodity supply chains across the UK, Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, the Caribbean, and Indonesia. We understand the risks and challenges faced by farmers and supply chains, both large and small, and the opportunities for all stakeholders to benefit from shared risk management and support. Our services extend to broader support mechanisms, including green finance, insurance, applied research, and training partners. We also collaborate with NGOs and policymakers to influence a more supported and productive agricultural sector.
We help farmers and agricultural value chains identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with environmental changes, market volatility, and resource scarcity. This includes supporting organisations with supply chain mapping and risk assessments for upcoming legislation such as CSRD, TNFD, and EUDR, focusing on optimising commercial, environmental, and social outcomes in the long term.
The Magic of Collaboration
Satarla acts as a convener and facilitator of progress across value chains. We work to establish alignment on environmental and commercial actions and outcomes, create access to higher-value markets through sustainable practices, product development, and branding/communications. Our team engages effectively and knowledgeably with stakeholders, building trust, business cases, and mechanisms for change, and providing project management support as needed.
Monetising Impact
In partnership with Terrabotics (Earth Observation and remote sensing specialists) and the James Hutton Institute (applied science in agriculture), we run an innovative programme of environmental monitoring in Scotland. This programme drives balanced, sustainable decisions across farms and interconnected farmlands. The applied research, conducted in conjunction with a well-known farmer group, distillery, and the entire supply chain, aims to establish scalable measures for climate, nature, water, and soil health outcomes. Our goal is to empower farmers with data and knowledge, enabling them to inform supply chains and access diverse income sources to support sustainable land management investments.
Equity and Society
We believe that long-term sustainability must be equitable and positively impact society. The concept of a Just Transition is more than a buzzword to us. Whether assessing challenges for women and youth in sustainable agriculture in the Caribbean or addressing issues related to land rights, gender-based violence, and youth disillusionment with agriculture, we ensure societal considerations such as livelihoods, mental health, and food security are integral to our nature restoration efforts.
