We are actively involved in a wide range of research projects, technology innovation and the sharing of thought leadership.  We also show that we truly mean what we say by investing in and building our own Sustainability Research Centre in Scotland.  We are not afraid to fail, knowing that not all innovation will work.  However, the sharing of our learning and data allows others to build on it and move our collective understanding forward.

Research projects and partners

We are involved in a number of large research consortiums that are both privately and publicly funded.  We regularly take on leadership roles in these projects and are happy to draft research proposals and structure portfolios of research.

Thought Leadership

We love learning from one another and building new ideas.  We do this internally, with our clients and through open forums.  Some of our key areas of thought leadership include:

Conference Organisation

We organise at least one conference every year for free. This allows us to bring together those we admire and want to hear from in an equal and constructive setting.  These conferences have included:

Committees we contribute to

We are delighted to bring our expertise to your committees and provide perspectives and suggestions to help you draft guidance and make decisions.  Current committees include:

Papers and publications

We have been delighted to have been involved in the publication of some of our work.  Recent papers and publications include:

Standards and Guidance

Our team regularly facilitates and “holds the pen” on the drafting of guidance and input to updates to certifications and standards.  Recent input includes:

Technology Development and Innovation

We have been involved in the development of many different forms of technology over the years, including Internet of Things platforms, risk management software, and artificial intelligence visualisation and learning tools.

One of our favourite technology partners is Terrabotics with whom we regularly collaborate and make use of their fantastic earth observation data analytics tools.

Sustainability Research Centre

We believe in putting our money and effort where our mouths are.  We have therefore established a Natural Living Laboratory on land for which we are the formal stewards in Scotland.  Here we will not only aim to run this land as a working farm, but also undertake extensive research to understand everything from the soil health, robustness of biodiversity, quality of water, through to social sentiment towards land-use change.

The outputs from this research will not only be the most extensive digital twin of the real landscape (which can be used for research projects globally), but also:

  • Testing site for new methods of monitoring and measuring everything from emissions to biodiversity.
  • Calibration site for different methods of measurement.
  • Scientific basis for stacked credit schemes were optimised improvement for all aspects of sustainability can be proven and monitored.
  • A range of tools to help farmers and those within the supply chain to ensure their sustainability initiatives truly are helping to support positive development of the natural landscape.
